Human Era is of course a homophone, as to hear the phrase, one would likely assume the speaker was referring to the notion of human error; an unintended action or outcome not desired by the user(s). Rather, Human Era is an exploratory exhibition which seeks to investigate the artists’ interpretation and visual representation of human existence.
Showcasing the works of Craig McClure, Ali Selliman, Jacob Sparrow and Claudia Latisnere, the Waikato based artists have been brought together due to their clean, precise aesthetic, and their natural inclination to explore this territory. Using paint, ink and photography on a variety of surfaces, Human Era provides the viewer with puzzle pieces, comic style paintings, drawings and dress ups as entry points to deeper ideas. From here, you can feel safe, tethered by childhood past-times, as you delve into rabbit holes of our historical past and theories of our future.
