Origins

painting, object & installation by Elliot Mason

7-21 Dec 2018

This exhibition marks a return from being Zeus Gallery to being a painter again, in a studio in the hills where I'm from, a place which has continuously informed my painting. I consider my work a product of my own origins, an extension of my identity.

I'm interested in prehistory, the origins of the planet. Hunter-Gatherer meets Farmer and the terror of the axe. Romantic visions of virgin surroundings of untouched paradise writhing with life and untainted raw energy. Paptuanukus cradle and the place where our species first inherited the earth.

This exhibition talks about origins, my origins, your origins and that of our world.

Experience it the way visual art is meant to be experienced, through your eyeballs and using mind power to read the image in whatever way befits your own unique gaze. I could tell you many things to deepen the level of understanding, the hows the whats the wheres the why's, but at some point, the works have to stand and talk for themselves, I like to think they are loud enough to talk to those willing to listen.
